There are over 50,000 trees in San Franscisco, California, and this visualization attempts to visualize a subset of the trees through the lens of tree trunk rings. The trees visualized had to both include information about when it was planted and its full species type.
Tree rings are special because the rings start small, and gradually grow larger with age. As you will hopefully find in the visualizations below, as the rings grow, the number of trees planted in San Franscisco are also increasing. Go science! 👩🔬
Shown below are the tree rings for the top five tree species of this dataset. As you will observe, the general patterns of late autumn having the least amount of trees planted and early spring having the most amount are maintained across almost all five species.
Quite interesting...considering that autumn seems like the best time to plant trees 🤔
